Exchange Management Console 2010 Sp1 Version 6.1 Build 7601  on Windows 7 not connecting to Remote Server
When trying to connect with EMC the admin credentials window pops up and this message appears: The following error occurred while attemping to connect to the specified Exchange server ' xxx.xxx.xxx' Unable to connect to version 14.2.318.2 server using version 14.1.421.0 due to potential compatibility problems. To resolve this issue please remove this sub-node from the console tree and re-add it specifying a server with a matching version. Windows updates are distributed via WSUS thus I forced the Search for online update version and I installed the Update Rollup 7 for Exchange Server 2010 SP1 9kb2743248). Re-doing the same operation does not allow any other Exchange server download. Exchange version 14.1.421.0 is Update Rollup 4 for Exchange Server 2010 (KB 982639). I first installed the EMC on my Win 7 workstation with domain admin privileges (By logging iin with a domain admin account). The ws OS is Windows 7 Professional SP 1. Thank you for advising.

Can you confirm that on your Win7 workstation that it's also on exchange 2010 sp1 ru 7? The tool on the workstation must match that of the server. Just get the updates directly from MS and not from wsus. Also I would suggest you eventually get to SP2 with roll up 2 with roll up 4. Thank you both for taking your time to answer. In fact the problem is that I cannot upgrade 14.1.421.0 Update Rollup 7 for Exchange Server 2010 SP1 to14.2.318.2 Update Rollup 4 for ExchangeServer 2010 SP2 because when I download Update Rollup 4 for ExchangeServer 2010 SP2, and try to install it, I get this Windows Installer message: The upgrade patch cannot be installed by the Windows Installer service because the program to be upgrade may be missing or the upgrade patch may update a different version of the program. Verify that the program to be upgrade exists on you computer and that you have the correct upgrade patch. In the update log: Update Rollup 7 for Exchange Server 2010 Service Pack 1 (KB2743248) Installation date: 10/09/2012 15:42 Installation status: Successful Update type: Important This update rollup resolves problems that were found in Exchange Server 2010 SP1 since Exchange Server 2010 SP1 was released and replaces previously released update rollups for Exchange Server 2010 SP1. More information: http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=2743248 http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=89577 Help and Support: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-US/exchange/dd203064 In Control Panel/All Control Panel Items/Program and Features, Microsoft Exchange Server 2010 is listed among the instaleld programs. I looked in the WindowsInbound Rules, but the there is no rule blocking the installers. I tried also before installation to start the Windows installer service manually. I am missing something. You need to get Exchange 2010 SP2 installed first, than do roll up 4. James Chong MCITP | EA | EMA; MCSE | M+, S+ Security+, Project+, ITIL msexchangetips.blogspot.com
